Private Residence

Cambridge, Vermont 5,000 sq ft

This residential project is organized around a ‘spine’, allowing the separate volumes to have differing relationships to the circulation in the home and to each other. The site-acquired timber used for the frame and interior finish details allow for interplay between the wood species; naturally bowed cherry slabs were used for an arch in the living / dining room, a debarked maple tree as a post in the master bedroom, maple and cherry to highlight the floors and stairs. Exterior and interior stone was sourced from local Vermont quarries. This high-performance home uses a wood-fired, solar assisted hydronic heating system in a layer of lightweight concrete under all of the hardwood floors.
