Thunder Basin Maple Works Syrup Production Facility

Cambridge, Vermont 8,000 sq ft

Establishing a 60,000 tap maple syrup production facility, this agricultural project encompasses both a storage building and a processing facility. The buildings reflect a thorough understanding of syrup production, from tree to storage to evaporator to marketplace; a challenging technical process far removed from the vintage ‘sugarshack’ of yesteryear. The project was fast-tracked, and employs an internally insulated foundation system, sandwiching rigid insulation between concrete walls. This provides an indestructible interior environment for the extensive mechanical systems required, as well as a maintenance free and rugged exterior. The building is also clad in locally sourced wood, which will be allowed to weather. The ample natural daylighting and a super-insulated envelope reduces the building's energy use.
